scrum wheeling

I am coaching a high level team. I would like to hear what opinions people have as far as the ideal time to initiate a small offensive wheel, which of course we would never do because it would violate laws. At the put in? When it is at the 8s feet?

hey man I think you could try to, get the hit on the opposite, and then turn the scrum on the hit, but even try and tunr it on the side opposite of the referee.

At the end of the season now and want to share what worked. I did not want to offensively wheel on the hit, as Chase suggested, because my team doesn't always secure posession when we do this. (On a defensive scrum, we do this.) I wanted to see if we could wheel on our second shove, after securing possession on the first hit. It took a lot of discipline on the part of the players, and feedback from me when they did get that 30-45 degrees needed to make a great space for our 8 pick, but it did eventually come together after lots of repetition. If you try it, I suggest doing it against less resistance at first, working on the timing, and then progressing to a full game.
